Hi, i’m your host Jo

At Mountain Rest our mission is to ensure every guest feels welcome, valued and rested. Myself and my partner Jarrod look forward to hosting your stay in Montrose.

Our B&B Story

I grew up in the Outer Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne and my schooling, career, marriage and starting a family began in this beautiful region. My career began in the travel industry, working for my sister-in-law in her boutique travel agency. After 7 years in travel I started a family with my partner Jarrod and we moved into Montrose. We fell in love with this leafy suburb tucked into the foothills of Mount Dandenong Ranges.

I love taking my dog Macy for a walk around Montrose and seeing the buzz of activity at the local shops and playground. You’ll always see people out walking their dogs, bike riders heading up the mountain, kids playing sports at the local reserve or people connecting over a cuppa at the local bakery or café.

Two of my favourite things are sitting in my garden first thing in the morning and catching the sunrise and view up to Mount Dandenong; and hosting a meal with friends and family. I love cooking up some delicious food and connecting with the people I love.

When an opportunity arose to purchase a nearby property, an idea was born out of a love for hospitality to create a short stay accommodation space that was for everyone – with a focus on the friends and family market looking for accessible and wheelchair friendly accommodation that is practical, uncomplicated and genuine. The original house was built back in 1978 and with several extensions since then, has been completely renovated to the current design, with our Studio accommodation at the front of the property and 4 Bedroom Retreat at the rear.

To tie into the heart and history of Montrose we named the B&B after a guesthouse of the same name that was operating in the early 1900s. You can learn more about Montrose here.
